Take an Internship During Your Studies at NMBU

By taking an internship course, you will gain relevant work experience during your studies. Many of our programmes of study offer this type of practice as part of the degree.

In an internship, you use the skills from your studies to help solve a business's real needs. You gain practical learning and relevant work experience. Taking an internship can also provide new perspectives for your further studies and is a valuable addition to your CV. It is a great opportunity to gain job-seeking experience, make industry contacts, and build a network. The internship can be in Norway or abroad. • What is an Internship?

  An internship is a course at NMBU where you, as a student, work in a business with an agreed project or other relevant issues for a limited period. You should have the academic background to carry out the agreed tasks. The tasks should also be relevant to the job market you are training for. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to systematically reflect on your experiences during the internship through assignments in the course. The purpose of the course is to link your studies more closely to the current job market and give you an understanding of how the knowledge you have gained is used in the professional world. NMBU aims for both you and the business to mutually benefit from the internship.

  NMBU offers different internship courses with various requirements. Check the requirements on the course page.

  Usually, you must find and contact a business you find interesting for the internship. The faculty assesses whether the business and tasks are suitable as work experience for you, as the faculty is responsible for the quality of the study program.

  An internship is not a professional employment, and you should not receive a salary from the business for the work you do during the internship.

• For Whom?

  For the faculties/study programs that offer internship courses, it is common for undergraduate students to be in their third year and have passed at least 120 credits before starting the course, and that all masters students can take such a course.

  Additionally, the School of Economics and Business offers the course Internship Abroad (course description INN332) to all masters students at NMBU.

• How to Get Started?

  • Check if your programme offers internship courses (also called practice courses, work experience, and work-life experience) in the list below and read the information from the faculty.
  • Consider if you want to take an internship abroad. If you wish to do an internship in Europe, you can apply for a grant for the internship period through Erasmus+. Additionally, the School of Economics and Business offers the course Internship Abroad (course description INN332) to all masters students at NMBU.
  • Think about the number of study credits, which industries or businesses, and when you would like to have an internship. The working hours in the business and the timing must be adapted to the business and its needs. It may be possible to work intensively for a short period, perhaps during holidays, or one/several days a week over a longer period. If the business is far away, it may be wise to have the internship during a block period or holiday.
  • Feel free to contact a study advisor to find out which periods are suitable for taking an internship course and if they have suggestions for businesses you can contact. Also, see internship announcements for NMBU students on our website.
  • Contact businesses and ask about internship opportunities, and/or apply for internship positions online. Use your network, ask guest lecturers, etc. on our website. See tips and advice on how to write applications and CVs and prepare for interviews on our website.
  • Find a supervisor at your faculty at NMBU (in some cases, it is the programme coordinator or course responsible).
  • Write an agreement with the business and your supervisor at your faculty at NMBU. You must use the faculty's agreement template. Your faculty must approve the agreement before the internship can start.
