Akvakultur - NMBU jobber i hele verdikjeden.

Safe and healthy seafood produced in a sustainable way under changing climate conditions. These are the fundamental challenges that NMBU will help solve.

Studies in aquaculture

We offer aquaculture studies close to research and industry. This means that our students are attractive on the job market when they have completed their bachelor's or master's degree. We are an interdisciplinary university that offers great academic flexibility to our students. This means that you, as an aquaculture student, can tailor your professional profile.

Research in aquaculture

At NMBU, research is carried out along the entire value chain for seafood production. We conduct interdisciplinary research into relationships and factors that are important for fish biology and genetics, feed utilization, disease resistance and welfare.

Sustainable aquaculture production involves the entire value chain, and NMBU has a unique breadth in its aquaculture research, which represents one of the world's strongest research environments in this area. This particularly applies within the disciplines of nutrition, feed development, breeding/genetics and disease control, but in all our faculties there are specialist groups that work with aquaculture-related research, in e.g. technology, water quality, fish welfare, product quality, food safety, economics and management, market, processing and land management.

  • Research areas

Aquaculture is the fastest growing food production in the world, and now accounts for more than 50 percent of the world's seafood production. At NMBU, we conduct research along the entire value chain, which includes everything from roe to market. Research within and across disciplines is necessary to optimize aquaculture in a sustainable way. Research areas:
