Documentation requirements for education obtained outside Norway

You are required to document a strong academic background from previous studies when you apply to the PhD programme in Veterinary Science, cf. Section 5.2 in the PhD regulations at NMBU. If your education is from a university outside Norway, there are some criteria you must meet:

  • General criteria
    1. Your education must be accredited in the country where you studied. Please check this database: World Higher Education Database (WHED) Portal
    2. You must document your whole education that forms the basis for admission, i.e., your bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
    3. The documentation must be officially translated into English if it is not in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, or English. We accept only translations by government-authorized translators abroad or in Norway, public-sector interpreting services (Tolketjenesten) in Norway, or embassies. The documents must indicate who has translated them. A copy of the original must always accompany the translation.

  • List of required documents
    1. Your final Diploma(s) from your master and bachelor education, officially approved in your country of study.  We need the documents in the original language as well as translations, see above.
    2. Official transcript of grades/academic record from all your higher education. By transcript, we mean an overview of subjects/grades/hours for all the years of your education. Student copies/unofficial transcripts are not accepted.
    3. Diploma supplement, for academic credentials that include this.
    4. Information about the grading scale.
    5. A statement from the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills if you have this.
    6. Your authorization if you have a veterinary education.
    7. An official translation of all the documents in English. Please see above.
    8. If you are in the final stage of your master’s programme you can attach a provisional transcript of your grades. However, to be admitted for a PhD position, you must have completed your master's and submitted the required documentation.
  • Requirement for specific documentation for certain countries

    Additional documentation will be required for applicants with education from the following countries:

    China: Academic credentials must be verified by CHESICC (China Credentials Verification)

    Pakistan: Academic credentials must be verified by HEC (Higher Eduction Commission)

    Cameroon, Ethiopia, Sudan, Ghana, Uganda, Nigeria, Eritrea, Philippines, Canada, and the United States: Applicants considered suitable for the position will be asked to send their academic credentials as a paper copy directly from the university college/university.
