Welcome, NMBU student!
Are you a student on a digital programme?
Go to the welcome webpage for digital programmes
This is your checklist for all you are required to do before study start.
We look forward to seeing you and hope to assist you for a good study start.
There is a lot to remember as a new student. The checklist will help you to get started:
1. Activate your NMBU user account
In order to continue with your registration, you must first activate your NMBU user account.
Read more about activating your user account2. Register for the semester in StudentWeb
The systm opens up for semester registration from 1 July
You must log on to StudentWeb and complete a five-step registration process for courses and exams each semester. You need to log in via FEIDE. Select the 'school or work account' with your NMBU email address and the password you set when you activated the account.
The StudentWeb is where you administer your education plan and your courses, find exam dates and what room the exam will be in, as well as your exam results. You use StudentWeb to update your semester address when it changes, and to register for lectures and exams or to cancel courses.
Once the registration is complete you will have access to the courses in Canvas (digital course room).
Use the Academic calendar to ensure you meet important registration deadlines.
IMPORTANT:
- Degree students should wait until after the welcome day at the faculty before selecting elective courses.
- Exchange students can receive assistance from the exchange coordinator to register additional courses.Should you have any questions around semester registration, please send an email to sit@nmbu.no
How to register for the semester
Before logging onto StudentWeb, you must first activate your user account.
Read more about activating your user account
Your semester registration is to be completed in the StudentWeb: log into StudentWeb using your NMBU email and password.
Click 'Start Registration' to complete the five-step process:
1) Rights and Obligations
Read through NMBU's rules and regulations and check the box to confirm that you have read and accepted these. Read through NMBU's information on cheating and plagiarism and how to avoid this, and then check the box to confirm that you acknowledge the information. Click next to proceed.
2) Study Plan
Review your detailed education plan for each semester of studies. All obligatory coursework should already be listed, but elective coursework may not be listed. You can add elective courses in this step. As a general rule, one academic year of studies is equivalent to 60 study points, alternatively 30 study points per semester. If your education plan is incomplete, you must nevertheless confirm the education plan and contact your study coordinator later for clarifications, changes and/or additions. Click next to proceed.
3) Status and Overview
Review the summary of completed and remaining coursework. Reminders for obligatory coursework will be noted. Click next to proceed.
4) Profile
Enter your local postal address. If you live on campus, use the postal address listed on your SiÅs welcome letter.
Enter emergency contact information. Include name, type of relationship, telephone number and email address if possible. Click complete to proceed.
5) Confirmation
This is the final step in the semester registration process. Review the summary of course registration for the semester and the assessment form.
The semester registration process is complete when you have completed the five steps above AND you have paid the semester fee.
3. Pay the semester fee
All students must pay the semester fee. (Incoming exchange students are exempt from the semester fee.)
Payment information can be found on the Student Web. All students must generate the invoice from the Student Web in the beginning of each semester, from the top menu item "Payments". Remember that there is a new KID number every semester
Deadlines:
Autumn semester: 15 September
Spring semester: 1 FebruaryIMPORTANT: Bilateral and Erasmus+ exchange students are exempt from paying the semester fee. Questions can be sent to international@nmbu.no
Download the semester-card app (studentbevis) to show proof of payment, also exchange students who are exempt from paying.
Once you have registered for the semester and paid the semester fee, you can apply for and receive support from Lånekassen.
If you are studying at another university in Norway and have paid the semester fee there, you must send documentation of the payment to sit@nmbu.no to have this registered in our systems. This has to be done manually. Valid documentation: a screenshot of the digital student ID, or a receipt from the bank that shows your name, amount and to whom the payment was made. A picture of the student web or other institution invoice is not valid documentation.
PhD candidates do not pay the semester fee. Exceptions are those who receive funding from the Government's loan fund for education (in accordance with the rules in the sixth part of the regulations in the Act on educational support for pupils and students, through Norad or Foreign Ministry-funded programmes). They can choose to pay semester fees.
4. Make sure you have registered for your courses and exams
Make sure that your individual education plan is correct. When your approve your individual education plan you will automatically be registered for the compulsory courses that are in your plan for that semester. NB: Please make sure that you are also registered for your exams.
Remember that you must complete your semester registration and pay the semester fee within the deadline for take your exam. All deadlines are listed in the Academic Calendar.
You are responsible for making sure that you have registered to your courses. Find the course you have been registered for in the top menu item: 'My active courses' in StudentWeb.
If you do not intend to take an exam, you must remember to withdraw courses and exams in the StudentWeb within the deadlines provided in the Academic Calendar.
Please see this video for advice on how to withdraw from a course
Check your registrations before the deadlines and contact SiT if you have any questions.
Extra courses and register for re-examination /'konte'
- Log in to StudentWeb
- Select 'active courses'
- Look up the applicable course
- Select the course and follow any further instructions
This video shows how you can register for courses in StudentWeb.

5. Order your student ID card
The student ID card is used to access buildings and borrow books at the university library. It can also be used as student ID at the student welfare organisations and on public transport companies (e.g. VY and Ruter) and more.
The student ID is not valid unless the semester fee has been paid, and you have registered for the semester in StudentWeb. If your photo is not displayed in the app, other valid identification must be presented with the app.
You must first activate your NMBU user account to order a student card, see: Activate NMBU user account.
User manual for ordering your student card can be found in NMBUHelp.
Pick up point must be selected: The physical student cards are to be collected at the Service Centre in the Veterinary Building. You will be given notice by email as soon as the card is ready to be collected.
If your degree programme is a digital programme you will select the pick-up point: 'I do not need an access card'. The profile picture you add to the student card order will then be added to the 'Studentbevis' app.
Note: A student card alone does not function as ID for student discounts. It must be combined with the digital student app available after paying the semester fee.
6. The app Studentbevis: your digital student ID
The student ID app works as a student ID at the student welfare organisations and on public transport (e.g. VY and Ruter), amongst other things, and will be valid in the same way as the study card and paper receipt. However, you will still need a physical study card to access buildings and borrow books.
The student ID app is not valid unless the semester fee has been paid, and you have registered for the semester in StudentWeb.
Students studying at multiple institutions must select the institution where they have paid the semester fee when they log in to the student ID app.
Download the app from your app store!
How to log in to the student ID app for the first time?
- Open the app (requires internet access).
- Choose which educational institution you belong to.
- Log in with the usual username and password given by your educational institution.
- Read the declaration of consent and accept (the app can only be used if you give your consent).
- Read the terms and agree (the app can only be used if you accept the terms).
- The app shows the photo that was taken to the student card. If the app does not display photo, other valid photo ID must be displayed upon inspection for the app to be golden as a student ID.
- If you have paid the semester fee and registered for the semester, this will show in a yellow box at the bottom of the page. The receipt itself is stored in the app. After logging in and registering the paid semester fee in the app, it can be used without internet access.
Note: Unless you are enrolled on an entirely digital degree programme, you should obtain both the app (or a semester card) and a student ID
Students who do not have a smartphone
If you do not have a smartphone and therefore do not have the opportunity to use the student ID app, you can order a paper semester receipt. Log in to StudentWeb, and from the menu in the upper left corner, select Orders and then Semester receipt. Remember to check that the semester address in StudentWeb is updated first.
7. Familiarise yourself with student resources
You are required to know what tools are necessary for your studies. Below is a shortlist, and on the web page NMBU student you will find all necessary links to the tools.

- For accommodation at Ås, apply from the University Foundation for Student Life in Ås (SiÅs).
Student organisations and social life
There are many good reasons to get involved as a student. Surveys on students' health and well-being show that students who participate actively in the student environment and in voluntary activities are less lonely and feel happier at their place of study.
A survey from 2020 showed that 44% of respondents consider that experiences from such activities were useful in their first job after graduation. NMBU encourage you to take part in the student community and to get involved!

How to get to campus
NMBU campus Ås in Mazemap - an interactive digital map!
The Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) is located at Aas (Norwegian spelling: Ås), some 40 km. south of Oslo. The distance from Oslo Airport to the NMBU campus is 80 km.
You can get to the university from both Oslo and the Oslo International Airport (Gardermoen) by bus, train or car.
By train
Intercity and express trains depart every half hour from Oslo airport to Oslo Central Station. The Airport Express Train (Flytoget) has frequent departures to Oslo, but is an expensive alternative.
From Oslo Central Station take the local train heading towards Moss, departing twice an hour during the daytime. Exit the train in Ås (the train from Oslo S stops at Holmlia and Ski before arriving in Ås), then walk, take bus no #510 or take a taxi from the station to NMBU (1 km).
Train schedules are easily available on the webpage www.vy.no, or by calling the Vy Customer Support (+ 47) 61 05 19 10.
Walk from Ås station to NMBU - Google Maps (around 20 minutes to walk)
By bus
The airport bus service is run by VY and departs from the airport once an hour. The best option is to catch the bus going towards Fredrikstad, route F11. Ask the bus driver to stop at Korsegården, located approximately 1 km from the university, and continue by bus #510 or taxi. The Korsegården stop is located next to a Shell petrol station. Upon request, the bus driver can have a taxi waiting for you at the petrol station. If you decide to walk, it is easy to find the way and takes around 20 minutes.
By car
NMBU is located close to the E6 motorway. From Oslo follow the signs going towards E6 Gøteborg. About 40 km from Oslo, turn off the motorway at the sign Ås, Universitetet. Turn left at the roundabout, cross the motorway and continue past the Shell petrol station situated on your left, along Drøbakveien. The NMBU campus is on your left-hand side a bit further down the road (see the map).
Parking
There are designated areas for guests, students and employees. NMBU's parking is operated by APCOA FLOW.
To qualify to use NMBU Student Parking at campus Ås, students must live further than 3 km away from Meierikrysset on campus. This rule must be complied with as there is high demand for parking on campus. Parking cannot exceed 24 hours per session.
The number of parking spaces per students is regulated by the county and municipality, and is presently 0.03 spaces per student.
All students have to register their vehicle in the parking app to make use of the NMBU Student Parking during the hours 08-17:00 all weekdays. This applies to cars, scooters/mopeds and motorbikes (MC).
The parking registration app requires annual renewal. A push notification will indicate when it is time for renewal.
User manual for Apcoa Flow (pdf in Norwegian).
You must be aware of the following:
- Student are only permitted to park one registered vehicle at a time. There is an option to register more than one vehicle, but be aware that you have to select the correct vehicle for the day your parking takes place.
- HC parking may be permitted. Send a request to parkering@nmbu.no. The permission must be confirmed and is digital.
NMBU student parking is free of charge.
General information about the areas of parking for students:
- Regulated hours of parking: all weekdays between 08:00 and 17:00. Parking is otherwise available for everyone during weekends and public holidays.
- The parking spaces reserved for students are marked 'Student' or 'Ansatt og student' in the map (link to mazemap).
- You are allowed to park up to 15 minutes in front of all buildings for loading/unloading purposes.
- MC and scooters/mopeds may use spaces intended for cars or MC and, when necessary, can park outside of the marked parking spaces if they do not hinder or obstruct any other vehicles.
- Find parking spaces in NMBU's Guest parking (mazemap).
- Go to NMBU's parking web page to find downloadable maps and information on guest parking.
- When organising events, meetings and lectures that may increase the number of parking spaces required: make sure you contact parkering@nmbu.no well in advance. Encourage visitors to make use of public transport.
The price for charging vehicles – NOK 5,- per kwh.
Payment for charging your vehicle is at all times. There is a start-up fee of NOK 2,-.
Find more information about charging codes and prices in the user manual (pdf in Norwegian). Apcoa has a separate payment system: the tariff group is indicated at the charging post, showing low or high charging effect.
The charging post is not automatically connected with your mobile app, and charges independently of the payment. There is a payment obligation connected with the charger being plugged into the vehicle - also after the charging is complete - so make sure you disconnect the charger!
We recommend connecting and checking if the charging post works before making the payment. Charging and payment is at each users own risk.
Any malfunction must be reported to eia@nmbu.no. Ensure that you provide the location of the parking space and parking area that has the problem.
Go to the parking web page to find maps with information on the charging stations.
Student cards may be used at most charging stations. For some charging posts you require a key/chip. These may be ordered from Norsk elbilforening (Electric vehicle Norway).
SiÅs Parking
There is a separate parking agreement for the SiÅs student housing services. Read about the SIÅS parking regulations. SiÅs student housing residents may NOT make use of the NMBU Student Parking.
Questions about NMBU student parking
Contact parkering@nmbu.no if you have any questions.
Alternatively find information on the Apcoa support webpage.
How to make a complaint about a parking fine: go to their webpage: www.kontrollavgift.no.
