  • Experiments and courses

It is possible to order experiments and courses at SEARCH. Please contact us well in advance of the planned start-up.

SEARCH offers state-of-the-art facilities for tests and courses in human and veterinary medicine.

It is possible to order experiments and courses at SEARCH. Please contact the center well in advance so we can decide whether the activity you want to carry out is possible. Clarification of whether SEARCH has the possibility and capacity must be clarified at least three months before the planned start-up. When final clarification and permits are available, you will receive a confirmation from us. If you are to arrange experiments or courses that require an application, a longer planning phase is often necessary. The Norwegian Food Safety Authority's processing time for applications is up to 40 days, provided that the application is completely and correctly completed and does not have to be returned.

In order for SEARCH to be able to prepare experiments or courses, the client must place an order. This is done via an online form and forms the basis for the necessary preparations before the trial/course start. Any costs incurred by SEARCH as a result of preparations for experiments or courses will be invoiced to the client. SEARCH will follow it to any ten most recently updated price lists. A detailed agreement must be signed between the client and SEARCH before the planned activity starts.

  • About SEARCH

Sandnes Education and Research Center Høyland (SEARCH) is located at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, NMBU Sandnes, in Sandnes municipality. SEARCH is a biomedical research center where researchers from different professional groups within human medicine, veterinary medicine and technical subjects (engineers) will together generate new knowledge, learn from each other and commercialize their research ideas by developing new diagnostic and treatment methods.

  • Project partners

The Universitety of Stavanger (UiS), Stavanger University Hospital (SUS) og The Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) contribute financially to the project and actively participates in the work on realizing the SEARCH building. The initiative holder has been NMBU.

  • Vision

SEARCH shall promote biomedical research, education and innovation by establishing cross-sectoral research and innovation projects, support the education course of health and veterinary personnel, be a test lab for new equipment and treatment methods and contribute to new health industries. The aim is to gain knowledge about diseases and new diagnostic and treatment methods to benefit both animals and humans.

  • Background

SEARCH is a new biomedical research center at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in Sandnes. NMBU Sandnes covers the fields of livestock health, pig health, veterinary community medicine and comparative medicine through the SEARCH collaboration.

NMBU's societal mission is to be a constructive, forward-looking and critical educational and research institution that collaborates with universities and other research institutions worldwide to develop new knowledge. Furthermore, NMBU must be responsible for research at a high international level, and in selected areas have research groups that are among the leading in the world.

With SEARCH, it will be possible to fulfill the mission within cross-sectoral research, education and innovation to an even greater extent than is the case today. SEARCH will function as a unifying arena where researchers from different occupational groups within human medicine, veterinary medicine and technical subjects (engineers) will together generate new knowledge, learn from each other and commercialize their research ideas by developing new diagnostic and treatment methods.

SEARCH has a unique position that attracts both national and international customers/collaborators. The user group spans from individual researchers/healthcare personnel/veterinarians, research groups, universities and healthcare organizations to larger national and international biomedical companies and classic medtech companies.

While the value creation in several large industries in Norway will decline in the future, the health and biomedical industry will grow to become one of the largest based on a strongly growing global market. SEARCH is a state-of-the-art research facility with advanced diagnostic equipment (X-ray room with CT machine) that is sought after as a testing facility.

SEARCH is located close to the new University Hospital (SUS), the Innovation Park iPark and the University of Stavanger (UiS). Sola airport is only 20 minutes away.

SEARCH has the opportunity to accommodate up to 45 students on campus.

  • Synergies

SUS and UiS currently do not have their own research facilities with animal stables. Premises with the possibility of research and surgery on animal models (goat, sheep and pig) are available at all other university hospitals and universities in Norway. SEARCH will strengthen the education of both health and veterinary personnel, as well as contribute to significant research and innovation activity, which will be important for the new Faculty of Health at UiS.

SEARCH will become a meeting place where staff and students will be able to collaborate across faculty and department boundaries, as well as develop cross-sector ties with regional, national and international partners.

Under the "New opportunities" tab, the business association in Stavanger has designated four new investment areas; Food, renewable energy, ICT/smart solutions and health. SEARCH has great potential for generating more research, innovation and innovation in the intersection of medicine and biomedicine. This will generate more knowledge about diseases and their course, as well as about new treatment methods. In this way, the project will contribute to better health for animals and people. The plans also include a significant investment in distance learning in that operations and procedures can be video-transmitted from SEARCH to other classrooms at UiS, SUS, NMBU or elsewhere in the world.

  • Organization of the project

Today, SEARCH is regulated under a central steering group in NMBU.

  • Contributors

Sandnes municipality and Rogaland county municipality are contributors to SEARCH. They actively participate in the work on realization. Furthermore, several private and public actors have contributed funds to SEARCH. Establishing SEARCH will contribute to business development regionally and contribute to increasing research and innovation nationally/internationally.

  • SEARCH is important both locally and internationally

SEARCH is a unique collaboration between important social actors in biomedical education, treatment and research. A cross-sector collaboration like this is unique both in a Norwegian and international context. SEARCH is important for our region, from an education, research, innovation and business perspective. Increased research, innovation and innovation in the region will strengthen the new Faculty of Health at UiS and provide increased value creation. Furthermore, the new hybrid CT lab at the center opens up many new possibilities.
