About this course
Herbology: Weeds, definition, reproduction, migration, damage, classification on biological and ecological grounds, and occurrence in Norway of the most important species. Entomology: Important pest species in green areas, identification, migration. Plant Pathology: Fundamental reasons for diseases in plants, diagnosis, laws concerning dangerous pests, migration routes. Pest control: Principles, conditions and effects of preventive and direct initiatives. Side effects of pest control initiatives. Control of pests in different situations, solutions to different practical pest problems in green areas.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
- The student shall have sufficient knowledge to take action against pest organisms in green areas.
- He/she shall be acquainted with the biological and ecological qualities of the most important pest organisms (plant pathogens, pests and weeds) in green areas, the fundamentals in control, and be able to choose the relevant actions.
Skills:
- The student shall be able to put up control strategies for pests when establishing and conserving green areas.
- The student shall be able to choose control strategies in line with general opinions on control, mainly in public green areas.
Competance:
- Be able to use general knowledge and skills of reviewed pests (syllabus species) as a fundament for finding control methodes for other pest control challenges as well.
