About this course

Syptoms, detection and identification of the most important diseases (fungi, bacteria and virus), pests (nematodes, insects, mites and slugs) and weeds will be taught through lectures, demonstrations, lab practicals and field visits. Life cycles and biology will be taught by lectures, assignments, lab practicals and self study. Principles and methods for management of pests, diseases and weeds will be taught focussing on sustainable strategies.

Learning outcome

The students shall know the most important pests, diseases and weeds in crop plants, and be able to select the optimal strategies for control.

    Lectures, demonstrations, assignments, lab practicals and field visits. Self study. Exercises during the course, in for example diagnosing pests, diseases and weeds.
  • Teaching support
    Via Canvas. Direct contact with teachers, but contact through e-mail prior to meetings is recommended.
  • Prerequisites
    Chemistry (KJM100), Botany (BOT100), Introductory Plant Physiology(BOT130), Microbiology (BIO130) and Genetics (BIO120).

    Plant Physiology (BOT200), Introductory Ecology (ECOL100), Cell biology (BIO100), Organic chemistry (KJM110), Biochemistry (KJB200), General zoology (ZOOL100) and Entomology (ZOOL220)

    The final written exam counts 100%.

    All assignments are handed in and approved (passed/ not passed).

    Participation in field practicals and exercises and group work.
