NMBU's fjørfehus, poultry house, is located adjacent to Ås Gård, Ås farm. When the Veterinary School was relocated to Ås, new facilities were to be built for veterinary education at Ås. Statsbygg was commissioned, as part of the large project to build Ås Gård, 3 km away from the campus. There were cuts in the project, and Fjørfehuset, tool shed, and silage pit were cut.

The poultry industry then stepped in, and funding was found to establish a poultry house after Statsbygg had completed Ås Gård. The poultry building project was set up so that NMBU was the developer, while the building was financed over time by the Norwegian poultry industry.

The building was equipped with user equipment and specialized equipment, with a focus on various poultry research. The interior was also financed by several actors besides NMBU.

The planning was completed by 2018. The project had a large project group where all parties were involved. In December 2019, the building was completed and could be used from 2020. The project had tight constraints, and the building ended up with a gross area of 1,500 sqm. It received a concrete facade, wood in the roof structure, and a gable roof overhang to match the other buildings at Ås Gård.

The project, including furnishings, cost 38 million NOK.
