Access control and security camera at NMBU
The purpose of the University's access control system is to manage the University's properties and ensure security and authorized access to our areas. The system consists of NMBU's card readers, and the property department at NMBU is responsible for the system. Through the access control system, you get access to the buildings and rooms you need to study or work at NMBU, while preventing people without affiliation to NMBU or specific areas from accessing our premises.
Which categories of data we process
In the access control system, we process information that identifies the registered person in addition to passage data related to the individual registered.
Legal basis for processing:
The legal basis for processing personal data in connection with access control is the Personal Data Act (personopplysningsloven) with GDPR art. 6 nr. 1 letter e.
Why do we use cameras?
At NMBU, we use cameras as one of several tools in security work. Cameras are placed all over Campus. These are marked. We use them to prevent theft and vandalism, and to protect people's lives and health. Most cameras are only used for real-time streaming of images. A few cameras record. These recordings are stored for 7 days. Upon delivery to the police, recordings can be stored for up to 30 days.
How do we use video and real-time streaming?
The data stream from the security cameras at NMBU is processed in the Milestone system. The security team at NMBU has access to the images. If recordings can be used as evidence in a security incident, they can be handed over to the Police.

The legal basis for the processing of personal data in streaming and recording is the Personal Data Act (personopplysningsloven) with GDPR art 6 nr. 1 letter e and the Regulation on camera surveillance in business (Forskrift om kameraovervåkning i virksomhet) § 3.
