Professor

  • Plantebiologi, matsystemer og planteproduksjon

Professor at NMBU since September 2022.

I come from University of Copenhagen, Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, Denmark, where I was associate professor since 2002.

My research field encompass applied ecological studies of beneficial insects and their interactions with insect pests and plants in agroecosystems in scales from individual to landscape. This includes effects of climate, crops, agricultural practices and plant diversity on herbivores, predators, parasitoids and wild pollinators, and effects on biodiversity per se and functional agrobiodiversity.

The aim is to develop sustainable production systems which promote natural regulation and apply use of biological control and to provide the basis for the further development of preventive measures,  and monitoring – forecasting systems for IPM.

Knowledge of the biology and ecology of insect and mite pests and their natural enemies is a prerequisite for successful pest management .

Cropping practice (organic/conventional) can affect both plant and arthropod diversity with real effects on both pests and their natural enemies and pollinators.

Current activites

-The use of semi-natural habitats and flower strips to augment beneficials and regulate pests. Projects in fruit, berries and annual crops.

-Stripcropping and its effects on pests, natural enemies and biodiversity

-Effects of cropping practice on functional biodiversity

-Use of novel sensors for early warning and monitoring in IPM

-supervision of BSc, MSc, PhD and postdocs

-Course responsible for the NMBU BSc course PLV200 Diseases, Pests and Weeds in Crop Plants and for the MSc course PLV330
