Kurs: Equine orthopedic days: Feeding for health and performance

27.03.2025: Det ble dessverre for få deltakere som meldte seg på kurset som skulle gå 26.-27. april. Vi håper allikevel å gjennomføre kurset ved seinere anledning, enten høst 2025 eller vår 2026. Hvem er kurset for?

Kurset retter seg hovedsakelig mot veterinærer som arbeider med hest. Det vil også være mulighet for deltagelse av andre som arbeider med hest, samt andre som har interesse av kurs om ernæring.  Nivået på kurset vil være tilpasset veterinærer.

Forelesningene holdes på engelsk.

Du kan delta både fysisk på NMBU, Ås og digitalt.

Who is the course for?

The course is mainly aimed at veterinarians who work with horses. There will also be an opportunity for participation by others who work with horses, as well as others who are interested in courses on nutrition. The level of the course will be adapted to veterinarians.

The lectures are held in English.

You can participate both at NMBU, Ås and online / digitally.

Kursets innhold

Dette kurset vil gi både grunnleggende og videreførende informasjon om ernæring hos hest. Innledende forelesninger vil dekke grunnleggende behov hos alle hester, hvordan man leser og analyserer bl.a. Høyanalyser, samt hva vi må tenke på ved fóring under norske forhold. Deretter vil ulike forelesninger dekke fôring av alt fra den drektige hoppa, løpshesten, sportshesten, den gamle hesten, den tjukke hesten mm.!

Course content

This course will provide both basic and advanced information on horse nutrition. Introductory lectures will cover the basic needs of all horses, how to read and analyze e.g. forage analyses, as well as what we have to think about when feeding under Norwegian conditions. Afterwards, various lectures will cover feeding everything from the pregnant mare, the race horse, the sports horse, the old horse, the fat horse etc.! See detailed programme.

Ingrid Vervuert

Ingrid Vervuert

Professor Ingrid Vervuert works at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Leipzig. She received her veterinary degree from the Free University of Berlin.  Then, went on to complete her doctoral thesis in equine energy metabolism in exercising horses from the University of Hannover and postdoctoral program in starch digestion in horses at the University of Leipzig.  Prof. Vervuert’s current research covers forage quality, equine gastric ulcers, obesity management in horses, ponies and donkeys.  Dr. Vervuert is a member of the scientific board of the European workshop on Equine nutrition, a leading conference for equine nutrition in Europe. Prof. Vervuert has greatly contributed to our knowledge of equine nutrition today. 

Malin Connysson

Malin Connysson

Malin Connysson has an MSc in agriculture and a PhD in animal science. She works as a teacher and researcher at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. Her research focuses on how feeding and management affect Standardbred trotters' metabolism and exercise response.

Idun Rosenfeld

Idun Rosenfeld

Idun Rosenfeld completed her veterinary degree from Oslo 1999 and worked in private equine practice until 2012. Completed a PhD from NMBU in Animal Nutrition (Digestion of cereals in exercised horses) in 2008. Currently she works in Felleskjøpet Agri as product manager for all equine feeds and is responsible for development of cereals to Norwegian horses. This includes working to get info from new research out to horse owners as popular-scientific articles and speeches. She also woks as a racing regulatory veterinarian at three Norwegian trotting racecourses, responsible for animal welfare during racing (employed at Mattilsynet). She lives in Ås and keeps her family’s showjumpers at her small farm.

Louise Husted Larsen

Louise Husted Larsen

Louise Husted Larsen (DVM PhD DACVIM) works as the technical manager in Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Nordics, where she is responsible for the equine portfolio, including products targeting gastric ulcers. In 2009, she defended her PhD on Equine Gastric ulceration with focus on pathophysiology (pH patterns in relation to eating behaviour and management practices). She holds a Diplomate degree in Large Animal Internal Medicine from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DACVIM). After graduation from the college in 2014, she worked at a Danish equine referral hospital, Højgård Hestehospital, managing the Internal medicine department for 8 years, where she handled clinical cases of all segments of internal medicine, including consulting on gastric ulcers from practicing vets throughout the Nordic countries.

Thon Hotel Ski ligger sentralt i Ski, men kort avstand til tog og buss direkte til Ås.

Reenskaug Hotel ligger i Drøbak sentrum. Det kan benyttes offentlig kommunikasjon mellom Ås og Drøbak.

The Student Welfare Organization in Ås offers a few simple rental rooms within walking distance of the teaching facilities. Thon Hotel Ski is centrally located in Ski, with short access to trains and buses directly to Ås. Reenskaug Hotel is located in the center of Drøbak. Public transportation can be used between Ås and Drøbak.
