SINTEF, NMBU and Stakeholder AS won a tender and was rewarded a project from ENOVA to map out available sustainable biomass for energy purposes.
The project has three main components:
Available sustainable biomass:
• Existing resources: What is the potential and what are used today?
• Future development: What is the potential and what will be economically viable to use in 2030 and 2050?
Technology and cost:
• Current market status
• Potential development in Norway towards 2030 and 2050
• Barriers that exist in the market
Regulatory framework and consequences:
• How sustainability regulation affects the availability of biomass for energy
• Description of key regulation and how it affects production of bioenergy and the bioenergy markets
• Sector regulation that limits, or could increase, the availability of biomass
We believe that this project is strategically important for all activities within bioenergy/biofuels and the government's ambitions for Norway to become a leader in the production of aviation and marine biofuel. The team of SINTEF, NMBU and Stakeholder AS cover the relevant breath of expertise for the project and can make use of the extensive research and knowledge that has been accumulated in Bio4Fuels.
