Information for project participants.
Purpose
You are invited to participate in a PhD research project titled: Antecedents and Outcomes of Multi-local Working from the Planning Perspective – The Case of Oslo Urban Region. The project is based at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU).
The study explores new working patterns and habits in the Oslo urban region, focusing on the emerging trend of multi-local working—where individuals work across multiple locations such as home, office, and other spaces. Factors such as digitalization, job demands, family needs, and the COVID-19 pandemic have further contributed to this growing phenomenon.
This study applies both quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate the multi-local working patterns and it aims to study how this concept has developed in the Oslo urban region and what the consequences are.
Who is responsible for the project?
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the Faculty of Landscape and Society at the Norwegian University of Life Science (NMBU) is responsible for the project (data controller).
Why have you been included in the study?
Oslo Science Park has been selected as a case study for this PhD research due to its role as a hub for knowledge workers. You are one of 200 employees chosen because your experience working from multiple locations is valuable for this study. By completing this survey, you will help provide insights into multi-local working, which can inform future urban development in the Oslo region.
What does the project mean for you?
Information is being gathered through an online questionnaire via Nettskjema, a tool designed by the University of Oslo for data collection. The survey will ask for general personal details (such as contact information, age, education, job, family situation), your work situation, and the locations you use for work, along with the reasons behind your choices.
You can object
You can object to being included in this research project at any time, and you do not have to give a reason. All of your personal data will then be deleted. There will be no negative consequences for you if you choose to object.
Your privacy: How we store and use your information
We will only use the information about you for the purposes we have described in this letter. We treat the information confidentially and in accordance with the privacy regulations:
- Only PhD researcher (Maryam Gorgpour), the main supervisor (Mina Di Marino), and the co-supervisor (Timothy Kevin Richardson) at NMBU will have access to your personal data during the research time and for the article publication.
- After collecting the data, your name and contact details will be replaced with a code. The list of names, contact details, and respective codes will be stored separately from the rest of the collected data, and the data will be stored on the university’s safe server.
What happens to your personal data at the end of the research project?
The information will be anonymized when the project ends and the thesis is approved, which according to the schedule is the 31st of August 2026. After that, we may keep some data for a longer period (maximum 10 years) only for research and publication purposes. Only the PhD researcher and supervisors at NMBU will have access to the data.
What gives us the right to process personal data about you?
We are processing information about you because the research project is considered to be in the public interest, but you have the right to object if you do not wish to be included in the project.
On behalf of the Norwegian University of Life Science (NMBU), Sikt – Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research has assessed that the processing of personal data in this project is in accordance with the privacy regulations.
Your rights
As long as you can be identified in the collected data, you have the right to:
- object
- access the personal data registered about you
- have personal data about you corrected/rectified,
- have personal data about you deleted, and
- file a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority regarding the processing of your personal data.
