Lithuanian Delegation visiting SmartForest and Bio4Fuels

A delegation from the Lithuanian Ministry of Education, Science and Sports and the Lithuanian Research Council visited the Norwegian Research Council. They specifically asked to visit the two research centresSmartForest4.0 and FME Bio4Fuels.

The program started at NIBIO Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research with Rasmus Astrup, the leader of SmartForest.
On our way to lunch we were guided by Filip Ihrsen, gardener in the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU)'s park. He gave us insight into the beautiful park’s history, plants and future plans.

The lunch at Vitenparken Campus Ås was sponsored by the Norwegian Research Council.
The last part of the meeting was hosted by the Faculty of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Food Science at NMBU. The delegates were informed about:

  • The Research Centre Bio4Fuels’ by Duncan Akporiaye, Bio4Fuels' Centre Leader
  • Energy, fuel and Economy, by Per Kristian Rørstad, leader of Bio4Fuels WP1.3
  • Enzymatic Saccharification of cellulose, by Aniko Varnai, leader of Bio4Fuels WP 3.2
  • A virtual tour in the biorefinery, by Svein Horn, deputy leader of Bio4Fuels
  • We were also informed about Lithuania’s research focus and cooperation within the EEA
