Name: Anna Quinn Mukwelle Ekille

Study program: International Environment and Development

Why did you choose to study in Norway?

I have always wanted to travel around the world and get the opportunity to experience different cultures and societies.

I found Norway to be the best country to fit my desired lifestyle and student environment. Having heard a lot of good things about the student life in Norway and about how student friendly it is, I knew this was the place for me.

Why did you choose NMBU?

When I was looking for a university, I knew I wanted to study somewhere where I enjoyed walking around campus, which is what helped NMBU being my first choice.

The bachelor I was interested in would cover many different topics which I found very interesting and important, so along with the beauty of the campus I found this to be the right university for me.

How did you experience settling in on campus?

Everyone working at the university has been extremely helpful with everything I needed in life order to settle in, and their ongoing availability makes it easier to not feel lost or stressed if I miss out on any important information.

Tell us about your study program

Covering both environmental sciences and humanistic sciences, the study covers many interconnected matters such as human rights, environmental justice, current events, and aid involving developing and underdeveloped countries.

One of the most used teaching methods in our lectures is involving the whole class in discussions This is very useful, advancing our understanding by bringing a topic from a powerpoint-presentation into an interesting discussion and analysis between the lecturer and the students.

How would you describe Campus Ås and its surroundings?

As mentioned earlier, the campus of NMBU is one of the factors that motivated me to apply to the course. It is a vast campus and has nature all through it and around it, which gives a fresh and relaxing feeling, especially if you live in the centre of Oslo and would like to be around a contrasting environment every once in a while.

Tell us about student life at Ås

I find the social life at the university to be very inclusive, especially having the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) organization which always has many activities or events that target the international students. There are many sororities and clubs to become a part of, linked to many different interests or sports. This is both fun and a great opportunity to meet new people and expand your circle.

What do you plan to do after studies?

Although it is not too far ahead, I still have not thought about my plan after my studies but finding Norway a great place to live, I believe I will be staying here for many years after the end of my studies.
