About the study place

Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR) is the largest, oldest and most well-known university in Costa Rica, and is located in the capital San José. Subjects on offer include mathematics, natural sciences, social sciences and engineering.

Information for international students

  • Agreement

    Bachelor and Master level.

  • Tuition fees

    Students outside bilateral exchange agreement pay USD $1 300 per semester.

  • Who can apply

    Applicants are ranged according to their average grade scores upon applying.

    All exchanges require a completion of 60ECTS prior to a stay abroad.

  • Language of Instruction

    Spanish

    All teaching is given in Spanish, and so it is demanded that exchange students have sufficient language skills; NMBU students must have Spanish language skills equivalent to Spanish level 1 from Norwegian secondary school. Alternative documentation of skills may also suffice, such as having studied one year of Spanish at university level.

  • Recognition of study credits

    18 UCR-credits = 30 ECTS at NMBU.

  • Semester timing

    Semester 1: February - June.
    Semester 2: July - December.
