EU funded research
Participation in the European research arena is a strategic priority for NMBU. NMBU aims to be an attractive and competitive player in Horizon Europe, and by collaborating with leading knowledge providers in Europe, we strengthen the quality and relevance of the university's research.
Projects led by NMBU in Horizon Europe and Horizon 2020
HoloGen
Microorganisms that live on and in our bodies influence almost all biological processes. This project will increase our knowledge of how microorganisms and their genes interact with the genes of their hosts. This knowledge has the potential to revolutionize not only basic biology, but also applied fields such as agrobiology, biomedicine and biotechnology.
VIMAS
The project will contribute to increased knowledge for a more sustainable management of people's use of nature and protected areas. Smarter methods for visitor monitoring will be used to limit the loss of biodiversity while safeguarding the social and economic benefits from these resources through outdoor life and nature-based tourism.
CryoStore
The project will develop innovative technologies for improved cryopreservation, which is a technology that makes it possible to freeze and store living cells in biobanks for a longer period. This will lead to increased reproductive efficiency in the livestock and aquaculture industries, better livestock breeding and help conserve Europe's livestock biodiversity.
BatCAT
The technologies and techniques developed within the project seek to enhance the current understanding of the degradation of batteries to develop better and more long-lasting batteries for consumers. Improving energy storage and lengthening battery life will contribute to the reduction of the carbon footprint and other emissions while increasing energy- and resource efficiency.
PANDASIA
The project will find out how pandemics develop from local to global level and how they can be stopped in time. Using data from local communities in Thailand, PANDASIA will create models that can predict the risk of the spread of new infectious diseases through infection from animals to humans.
AQUA-FAANG
The project will contribute to a better understanding of how the genes in farmed fish work, how different genes affect different characteristics such as resistance to diseases, and how the genes are affected by the external environment and the fish's age and life stage. This will contribute to better fish health and a more sustainable and profitable farming industry.
NewCat
The project will develop enzyme-based
catalysts that convert simple molecules with hydrogen and carbon into important raw materials for products within the medical, biotechnological and chemical industries. The research will contribute to cheaper, more energy-saving and more environmentally friendly processes.
ROBUTCHER
The project will develop an intelligent robot that can learn to lift, grasp and cut meat in the same way as a butcher does. The robot will improve working conditions in the meat industry by reducing the amount of dangerous and repetitive work tasks. It will also contribute to better food hygiene and less food waste.
PHOTONFOOD
The project will develop portable measuring devices that can detect contamination such as traces of fungi, mycotoxins, pesticides and antibiotics in foodstuffs. The technology should be able to be used by food producers, transporters and grocery stores all over the world and will contribute to food safety and reduce food waste.
SiEUGreen
The project will promote urban agriculture with the aim of increased food security, resource efficiency and smarter, more robust cities. The project will demonstrate how technological innovation and social innovation in urban agriculture can have a positive impact on society and the economy and circular economy.
