About this course

The course will deal with the connection between the most important biological, chemical and physical environmental factors and human health both in a local and global perspective. The consequences of pollution in air, food and water, exposure to unhealthy environmental factors at work and industrial emissions will be discussed.

The students get an introduction to risk assessment methods with a focus on human health. The students will also be introduced to scientific methods used to study the effects on human health with regards exposure to various biological, chemical and physical environmental factors.

Learning outcome

After completing the course, students will have the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge: Students will have an insight into how pollution in air, food and water, exposure to factors hazardous in the workplace and industrial contaminants affect human health. Students will have in-depth knowledge of various aspects of a human health risk assessment and get an overview of scientific methods used to study effects on human health from exposure to various environmental factors.

Skills: Students should be able to carry out a risk assessment of exposure to biological, chemical and physical environmental factors with a focus on human health. Students must be able to assess and discuss scientific data and communicate knowledge about risks to human health from exposure to biological, chemical and physical environmental factors.

General competence: Students must be able to critically assess the significance of various biological, chemical and physical environmental factors for human health.

    Oral examination counts 100 %. Grading scale A-E / Not passed.

  • Examiner scheme
    An external examiner participate at the oral exam.
  • Mandatory activity
    Individual term paper that is presented in plenary. This part must be approved before the oral exam can be taken.
