About this course
In addition to the scheduled time, students are expected to read literature that will be discussed in the class room, deliver exercises and write a an individuell oppgave.
The course is structured around lectures and seminars. The teaching is 4 hours a week during the spring semester. In addition to scheduled time, the student is expected to read literature that will be discussed in class, do exercises and evaluate a place with regard to its health-promoting qualities. The students work in groups supervising each other with the preparation of the final individual assignment.
Learning outcome
Knowledge
The student is expected to have knowledge of theories and concepts around the interaction between people and their physical environments. The student should gain an understanding and be able to reflect on how we influence and are influenced by our physical environment. The student should engage with research literature to acquire knowledge about which factors in the physical environment can inhibit and promote public health.
Skills
The student should understand how we can study the influence of physical environments on health and be familiar with various methods for mapping use and experience of physical environment. The student should gain practical experience with one or more methods. The student should be able to reflect on how knowledge of the relationship between physical environments and health, and various methods for mapping use and experience of physical environments, can be used in health-promotion within spatial and municipal planning. Emphasis is placed on the applicability of theory and methodology.
General competence
The student is expected to further develop skills in literature search, critical reading, academic writing skills, cooperation ability, responsibility, ability to reflect and critical thinking through independent work and group work. The student should be able to see the usefulness of and apply knowledge and skills from the course independently in various situations in further education and professional contexts.
